It is described as a "knowing-your-age comedy," centering on a successful author (Mark Polish) who is forced to confront an unrequited high school crush (Ryder) when he returns home to deliver a commencement address to graduating seniors.

'War, Inc.' - a satire that misses its mark

The film's conceit is that John Cusack, revisiting a similar character from "Grosse Point Blank," a 1997 farce he also co-wrote and produced, is a weary hit man named Brand Hauser. He is ordered to go to Turaqistan to whack a Middle Eastern leader named Omar Sharif who is bucking the American corporation, Tamerlane, in charge of the first completely outsourced war. Hauser's cover is that he's a producer of Tamerlane's Brand U.S.A. trade show taking place in the war-torn country. Marisa Tomei plays Natalie Hegalhuzen, a sassy left-wing print journalist, and Hilary Duff appears as a heavily made-up Central European teen pop star named Yonica Babyyeah. Joan Cusack does her brother a solid by showing up as an operative posing as a harried Tamerlane event coordinator/secretary. She's easily the best thing in the movie. SF Gate
