No. If we had class that would be an AK-47.

No, I think maybe a .300 Win Mag or a .375 Mag
Reply to this Comment
If Obama owned a firearm, it would be an AK-47, because it is a symbol of Communism. A form of government he admires and wishes to transfer the American government into.

First it was a joke....And having a Universal Healthcare system is socialist in nature....But so was Social Security and we saw how Social Security really plunged our nation into communism....Not.
So what is your solution for Healthcare or the economy if Obama's is so communist?
I ask you because the Republicans left us without any idea what so ever of a plan.....for the economy, national security or healthcare....
Also please don't refer to how Obama didn't say anything about it, because he did lay out his plan in his speech.
Reply to this Comment
Social Security is a program that was initiated by Democrats and has failed just like national healthcare would.
McCain would reduce taxes and cut spending. Obama would increase taxes for "evil" American corporations, yet they provide employment for Americans. American companies are already at a disadvantage in the global economy, but Obama wants to burden them with higher taxes. Obama speaks of all these wonderful government programs, but who's paying for them?
Reply to this Comment
Obama said he could “pay for every dime” of his spending and tax cut proposals “by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens.” That’s wrong – his proposed tax increases on upper-income individuals are key components of paying for his program, as well. And his plan, like McCain’s, would leave the U.S. facing big budget deficits, according to independent experts.

Very interesting stuff....Still makes you wonder if which John McCain we are getting.
Reply to this Comment
There's no way you can pay for all of Obama's "PROMISES" by taxing upper classes. The upper classes are the ones giving work, and are the ones who are innovative enough that are keeping the country on the cutting edge. Many of these families will not be motivated enough, or will move their funds, and change their citizenship to somewhere else, AKA Mexico, China, etc.
What Obama's doing is that he's scaring off investors - local and foreign. He doesn't understand economics, he just gives empty promises to these emotionally-high, but intellectually retarded masses.
But yes, I'm all for universal health care. But we all gotta admit that this will raise EVERY BODY's taxes, and will thus lead to Scandinavian SOCIALISM. That is the reality. You just can't fuckin rely on the upper classes! Or the economy will come dwindling down faster than this fucked up Bush has done.
Reply to this Comment
social security hasn't plunged us into communism but it's broke unless we feed it more money...proof that that sort of thing doesn't work. It was designed as a supplement to retirement income but the liberals cry that people can't live on it. Duh you are supposed to have other retirement plans... we in this country spend less on food than anyone in the world, have the best healthcare in the world but nobody can save any money for retirement, why... because they want to buy everything else they "want" not necessarily "need" so they live paycheck to paycheck in debt all the time while living high and complain that the government owes them a retirement. Dumb. We have the best healthcare in the world, might not be the cheapest but it is the best, still cheaper than socialized healthcare and infinatly better. There is a reason people from Canada come here for healthcare, you need a surgery there it will be free(people say free but it's your tax money) but get in line cause you'll have to wait. I'm tired of people blowing there money on things they don't need then expecting the government to take care of them...be more responsible with your money and take care of yourself people.
Reply to this Comment
Lots of people thought they did, only to find out that in the regulation-free corporate America brought to you by Republicans, fat cat executives stole all the money after running the corporations into the ground, and leaving the pensions bankrupt.
We have the best healthcare system in the world for the persons who have the best health insurance. Everyone else gets screwed, and many are left with no insurance and therefore no healthcare. For those who cannot afford healthcare how is out healthcare the best in the world?
I agree many people could be smarter about their money, but it's not so easy for everyone, many people don't have much left over after necessities.
Reply to this Comment
Wouldn't usually comment on US politics but...
You only have the best healthcare in the world for about 5% of the population. You seem to allow insurance companies the final word on whether someone lives or dies. The World Health Organization ranked the USA 37th for healthcare in 2000. Of 33 developed countries America is ranked just above Latvia for infant mortality, the second highest.
Although in the UK we have socialist medical care you are allowed to take out private healthcare if you wish and use their hospitals. Doctors in the UK are paid bonuses if their patients are healthy and get paid on average more than an American doctor of the same level.
The NHS is not perfect but it's nice to have that safety net if the worst happens.

OMG! It's Bush Cheney all over again. Pandering to the religious right.
When democratic women first heard about the Palin decision they were made. Like, "They think they are going to get my vote because he picks a woman."
No this runs far deeper....They are drilling for that core Republican Religious right. Democrats have to stop thinking like Democrats for a second and realize that there is an undercurrent to this nation that runs very deep...And that undercurrent is religion.
The thing is....This really isn't McCain's type of thing. He's only the nominee because he sold his soul. If he had it his way it would probably be McCain / Lieberman.
No where in the last 2 days have they brought the economy. In fact with the exception of Rudy (9-11)they really didn't bring up much else but how inexperienced or how liberal the Democrats are.
Honestly, we need to take a step back and think. Is this the John McCain that we will get when he is in office? Or are we going to get the John McCain that you saw hints of last night. Appealing to the independents by attacking the record of his own party.
I just hope he is only doing this to get elected, because, for someone, who is suppose to be such a maverick...This convention seemed to embrace a lot of the things he is so mavericky about.....And Palin....Is just complete and utter pandering to the religious right. They are fucking ecstatic.

Richard, who do you think Vladimir Putin is pulling for in this election?
Reply to this Comment
I think Putin is pulling for McCain.
I don't imagine him wanting to have to deal with Biden as VP. Biden would tell you like it is and than kick you in the crotch until you got the point. I kid...Kind of....
On a serious note....McCain would concentrate so much energy trying to keep the troops in Iraq for 100 years that he would totally miss the fact, like Bush, that the real war on Terror is still in the Afganistan and Pakistan. Sure it is in Iraq now, but that is our fault.
Not sure if mentioned yesterday, or if you read. The attacks in Georgia and the Taliban attacking US installations in Afganistan seem more than coincedence. Especially if you remember the 80's and how we fed Afganistan weapons to take down Russian choppers. We also, after tearing down that wall in berlin, left Russia in utter ruin with Gorbachev and his perestroika and glasnost fiasco.
I'd pretty much bet that Putin has been drinking the KGB vodka again and would like Russia to return to its old ways.
No one will take it seriously though until American Helicopters are being shot out of the sky in Afganistan though.
Reply to this Comment
So Obama would send Biden? Obama doesn't have the backbone to deal with Putin and you know it. His "Community Organizer" experience would be of no help to him. Obama had the chance to put the final nail in Hillary's coffin and end her bid to be the Democratic nominee, but he didn't have the balls to do it. Putin would take Obama's lunch money and he wouldn't do anything about it, but "hope" that Putin would give it back to him if he asked politely.
McCain has backed off of his "100 years" statement and the US and Iraq are working on a US withdrawal.
I agree with you that the real war is in Afganistan and do you give any credit to Bush for going there?
I would buy a sweater, because the cold war is back.
Reply to this Comment
Well it's about bring us together, not dividing us. It was political. You can't alienate all the voter that voted for her. That would be just stupid.
Ha! That was funny. I was just imagining the lunch money thing. :O) Seriously though....I think Obama has a good grasp of the situation and think he is poised and cerebral enough that he wouldn't back down and certianly wouldn't be paling around with him like George Bush a few weeks ago.

You are wrong, first, Afghanistan is one of the areas where Russia is in agreement with USA since they are enemies of the Taliban. In fact even after Georgia invasion, they informed NATO they can still use the Russian railways to transport troops and supplies to Afghanistan, important, as most NATO nations lack sufficient air transport capability, and Afghanistan is landlocked.
Second, Obama is against the missile bases in Poland and Czech republic, and military support and high level alliances with them. Russia, backed by a resurgent military funded with petrodollars wants to regain some of the sphere of influence they have lost since end of cold war. And part of that is intimidating countries like Poland Czech Rep, Ukraine, from anti Russian activities. They would much prefer an Obama administration.
As an aside I am an independant and will repeat a rant from yesterday:
DON,T BE FUCKING STUPID! Both parties have failed us, we have a democratic congress, Bush couldn't spend a cent without their approval. Both parties have not done a good job for 20 years! They con you into believing it's "the other guys fault". Real living standards have fallen, absent debt. The mirage of a strong economy was held up by people using their home equity like an ATM, and Wall Street obliging with a pyramid scheme of bad paper. Read bright independent people like Volker,Roubini, Schiller, Buffet, Grant, Fleckenstein, Von Mises institute, shadowstats etc. Basically people with first access to capital and those politically connected made billions while the taxpayers will be forced to cover the losses. Estimated from independent sources put the taxpayer bill for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac between 1.3 and 5.3 TRILLION!!! We already have 70 TRILLION of unfunded obligations. We have not had a balanced budget since I have been born (NO Clinton did not actually balance the budget, as national debt ROSE every year he was in office) Also, Clinton AND baby Bush have moneyed with the government data to under report inflation and unemployment. You can go to the government's own sites BLS.gov and look i the footnotes. u-6 unemployment, which is how it was calculated pre Clinton is over 10% inflation last year close to 10% yet the inflation rate the gov't used to calculate the latest GDP was 2% because the truth is we have been in a recession since November. Phil Graham (rep) and Barney Frank(dem) with many co conspirators, deregulated the industry that allowed the mess we are in BIPARTISAN. Not to mention how they have gerrymandered the districts so it is very hard to vote out an incumbent.
BOTTOM LINE...WE NEED TERM LIMITS TO RID US OF THE PARASITES FROM BOTH PARTIES WHO ONLY SERVE THEMSELVES, NOT US!

Good points...And I hope to God I am wrong. Believe me when I say that. Good article on the whole thing...Looks like Russia may not be as apt to help suppress the Taliban though....See the 6th paragraph. Like I said I hope I am wrong, but we kind of blew Georgia and that was waiting to happen. What happens if something is being done covertly. I don't think unless someone is writing from the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan, I don't thing that can be said with 100% certainty.
http://www.nationalinterest.org/Article.aspx?id=19606
On your other comment...I've been trying comment since 3 in the afternoon, but it wasn't allowing me to comment. So excuse my latency.
In any event...I'm for Ron Paul and a lot of Libertarian plans, but that isn't going to happen this election. It is in the icubation period. Let's just hope that the independents use their resources and stick around another 4 or 8 years and build on the political base they have established. Hopefully Ron Paul or someone beside the nut case Jesse Ventura will stick around longer than Ross Perot to carry the torch and push the movement forward. I really hope it works, because "real" new ideas need to come forward so we can progress.
Realistically.....We are not going to get a lot change from either.
I just know from living through the first Bush and feeling my wallet getting tighter and tighter and eventually just feeling a so distraught with the economy.
On this election:
During the Clinton years my career flourished and my pay went up 5 times what it was originally. I could afford a home comfortably with a nice down payment and a car almost fully paid for by 2001. AFter 2001, my wallet got tighter and tighter....Home got harder and harder to keep and the price of everything went up.
Soon I wasn't getting enough pay to keep up with inflation.
So from experience...I tend to trust the democrats with my wallet a bit more.
I grew up with both parents as teachers.....The middle class standard and during Reagan and Bush....We fought to stay a float by the end.
In any event....I agree that term limits should be set. How can any new ideas get in if you have the same old politicians returning decade after decade.
Well new politicians can beat them, but that's tough.
As I have said I hope I am wrong about Russia and the Taliban, and really hope that the independents can increase their base and take a real run at the presidency in the near future.
Even the Democrats are having a tough time cracking the base of the Republicans. Even after 8 years of having a horrible president. So in this election...REalistically there is no chance for the independents.

Certainly McCain. Why were we able to do nothing to support Georgia, one of our allies? Because were are overextended in Iraq. Putin knew this, he wouldn't have dared invaded Georgia otherwise. He also knew that the US couldn't claim the moral high ground, what we did to Iraq was way worse tha what Russia did to Georgia. I read that we were saying the the Russian response was "disproportionate." Disproportionate?! Are you fucking kidding me?! If you want to see Disproportionate, see "Shock and Awe" against a country that didn't attack or threaten us.

The rest of the world wants the United States to police the world. So I say to the rest of the world, shut the fuck up and let us do the job that you can't do for yourself. Can you imagine what the world would look like if the United States was not the watch dog on top of the hill watching the likes of Russia, North Korea, China and Iran? It's not a world I would like to live in. Putin is building his country into the world's next superpower and I don't think the US economy can bankrupt his country once again like it did to end the cold war. It's best to take him out now before it's too late.

Let's not get carried away, they have a 1.3 trillion dollar economy, and a demographic problem of a shrinking, sickly population(life expectancy on 66.) They are not gpong to spend a few hundred billion to create a large blue water navy for global force projection, and for their strategic interests as a land power, it is not necessary. He does want to rebuild them into a solid regional power, who must be taken seriously in all matters of eastern European, and Asia..

I was a political science major I grad-gee-ated. Not very usefull unless you like to post comments on random websites or get into law or politics. The U.S. gets involved in too many conflicts. Needless and useless I think we're expected to do x yet criticised for doing x. Vietnam... um yeah, I don't think we ever needed to be involved. If we never went to Vietnam nothing really would be any different.

Yes be very afraid of the Religeous right they are for war and want everybody to starve. We'd be much better being governed by ohh say ummm Muslims yes they are for peace yes them and communists they have lots of food in there stores...thats the answer elect muslims and commies to run the country then we'll all be better off.
Reply to this Comment
Why not be afraid of the religious right? You have a curious way of reasoning. If we don't elect religious right we elect muslims and communists? Umm... ok, I don't see how that makes sense but if you say so. Why should the religious right (which is a small group of people) have control over an entire political party? I don't want ultra conservatives telling me what my morals should be. A girl in a bikini is scandalous to them.

It's not about liberal or conservative for me. I choose who I think is better. I will vote for Obama. Anyone, even if you are republican would be crazy to vote for Mccain. Why would anyone want more of the same? A war that we should have never been involved in (tricked to get into), failing economy (dow dropped 344 points yesterday), and energy policies that are out of date. It's time to move on from relying on oil for energy.

Technology is here. Fuel cell cars are here just not widespread. An asian automaker can't remember who has limited cars in california. Gm is testing cars now. Point is: if the technology isn't here (widespread) it will be if support is given to alternate fuel ideas.

republicans are doing the same harm to America that a right wing party did to BRA during the late 90's, early 00's, sinking the economy, and letting the country everyday more dependent internationally wise, which is a shame when you remember the period 1996 from 2000 and how great America was, economy at its full boost, domestic jobs being created (and not this huge outsourcing the we notice now) and most important, a president who managed to play a signifcant international role like Bill did in Kosovo, and not like the brainless bush who sunk America and Allies into a pointless lobby driven war in Iraq, that is consuming important military and financial resources form USA, at exchange of nothing
Personally, I think americans should remember those days from 1996 to 2000 and vote for Democrats, I went to USA in vactions often during this time and I could remebem how great it was
cheers to fellow americans, and please have conscience when you're going to vote
