Instead of saying "no you cant have sex", you should explain to them why sex is not just fooling around. you should tell them that it may come with responsibilities and let them know all about sex, protection, stds, etc. in the end, the kids will make the right choice. dont you remember being a kid and how you hated being influenced by your parents? its always better if the parents dont come off strong and say "NO" but instead explain the situation to you, tell you about the BETTER options out there, let you think about it and then ultimately let you make your own decisions. its so hilarious that the kids who have sex and get pregnant as teens are usually the ones raised by very very strict parents who are also often religious.

Well, I didnt ask for your opinion of me but since you've already given, I guess i will let you know that i dont really care but I do like to say a few things. I am 24 right now, and the fact that my parents always emphasized how studying and school were the most important things in life before boys got me where I am today. I've had my first boyfriend when I was 20 and I had my first kist then, too. I simply did not care about boys because I had other things to focus on. Sure, I had crushes and checked them out but that was it. I was never told that i was not allowed to have a boyfriend but the fact that my parents explained how other things came before them pretty much guided me. To #5 - I don't know how old you are, but kids are very different nowadays. They do "adult" type things at a very young age, but they're not as mature or innocent as the Gen Xers were as kids.

What about the parents being the role model? My husband and I have good careers. Our daughter has never said "I want to be like Hannah Montana." But seriously I had a boyfriend when I was 16 and I don't really mind the idea of my children (when I have them) having boyfriends/girlfriends at that age. That being said my relationship at 16 was very open. He'd go to church with us, we'd hang out all day during the summer and then at night he'd come over to the house and have dinner with us, etc. The point is, I think the more interaction with parents (casual, not forced) the more respectful kids are and the less they're thinking about going behind your back. The relationship was my first love and absolutely no sex was involved--never even came up. Sometimes a little puppy love is good, just keep an eye on them and don't let them roam free thinking they're adults.

That being said, I think there's a very good chance these two are doing the nasty. I certainly wasn't sending all types of sexy pictures or taking them in public--or at all--with my boyfriend at that age. But I did have other friends my age who took pictures like this and they didn't come across so comfortable on camera bearing their stomachs for nothing--totally having sex.

Daenarys, I'm not trying to start a fight with you but strict parent does NOT equal good parent. You've got to give your children some freedom. 14 and 15 is not that young as it may sound. People a long time ago used to get married and have children at that age. Now i'm not saying that it's normal to get married and have kids that early BUT by nature we ARE physically and mentally stable and prepared enough to handle such things. I may not have any children of my own but I can tell you that my parents were and still are pretty damn good parents and raised me well and they were not strict. My father died when I was 15 and ever since, I've been the father figure to my younger sisters (one is 16, one is 9) and younger brother (14). I have dealt with everything a parent has to deal with with their teenage kids. I teach them what my father taught me and everything is fine. My sister is 16 and has a boyfriend and she is an honor student with perfect grades and she is a great sibling, daughter, and person. Her relationship is not holding her back from succeeding. Now I'll admit that I was not open to the idea of her having a boyfriend at first. I love her and want to protect her so naturally I was suspicious of the guy and his intentions and the nature of the relationship. My sister and I had an open discussion about it. I told her the truth about how I feel and I let her know that relationships are not the most important thing in her young life right now. I explained to her that she needs to continue concentrating on the more important things in life and has to be careful with her boyfriend. I made SURE that he's a good guy, respects her, and that she is not pressured into doing anything. I showed her all the options out there and told her about all the risks she could be taking. She listened and is happy that I care about her. She still has that boyfriend and I approve of him now that I know she's a smart girl and knows what she's doing and I know he's a good guy. If there were any signs of her slowing down with her life then I'd most likely blaming the relationship but currently there is no signs of slowing her down with school, extra curricular activities, family life, etc.

I'm going to say it again: It's hilarious to me that the kids who have sex, get pregnant, and get into trouble are usually the ones who have very strict parents who are often "moralistic" and restrict them from everything. I've heard way too many stories about kids like that and each and every one came from a strict family.

There's nothing wrong with 15 and 16 year old girlfriends having a boyfriend as long as they're educated about the dangers and complications. When I was 11 my parents sent me to an all girl's Catholic school (for the education, not for doing anything wrong) and as soon as I was able to transfer at 15, I did.
