ha I totally know what you mean about it being insulting if a guy checks out a fugly girl; I'll be the first to say if I think another girl is hot, but if he's like "damn" and she looks like shit I get really annoyed. yeah though my man finds girls unattractive that I think are really pretty--he's really picky. he rarely compliments other girls above "cute," in fact the one time he agreed a girl was hot he also said she looked like my evil twin! and he's very blunt--if he doesn't like something he's not afraid to say it--so it's nice to know that he's just being himself and not saying what I want to hear. I honestly don't care if a guy points out a girl that I also think is hot once in a while--just so long as he appreciates me!
yeah I know what you mean about the Mexicans too. craziness...and I'm not Russian, but my god, the Turks in Russia; it was out of control. And I have a problem with looking at people; I do it too much. I often make eye contact with other people when I pass, and in both Russia and Sweden this was a problem because if a girl does it it's considered flirting! I seriously had guys react as if I had flashed them! like "whooaahoo" you know what I mean, ugh, but in Sweden at least it was usually more funny than creepy haha
oh and my Swede does have a brother who's almost 30, but definitely cute and around 6'4. He also has a good job and great apartment, but you'd have to move to Stockholm and fight off his girlfriend lol.
anyway Swedish guys are great, you have to have thick skin at first because they do not treat you like a "girl" necessarily, they don't feel the need to tell you you're hot, and they're blunt, and also they don't pay for drinks or anything, like I said their culture is all about equality. and Swedish women are hardcore--they do most of the approaching, and also compared to the U.S. Swedish women are a lot more likely to have one night stands. it's completely accepted. My Swede thought he was going to get me in bed like the third night we met--and we met as friends and hadn't even gone on a date! oh helll no haha but we still ended up together in the end, after he actually did a little bit of pursuing and put some effort into it :) a lot actually haha
for an American girl born and raised, I actually have a lot of experience with Turkish guys... I studied in Russia and it's well known there that Turkish men are obsessed with Russian women (they're extremely beautiful and also a bit "loose" shall we say) so I had some seriously creepy Turks following me around (thinking I was Russian). and in Sweden I heard stories from Swedish women about the men harassing them when they go to Turkey--Swedish women also have a promiscuous reputation there it seems, but the country is a popular vacation spot with Swedes. So anyway while I'd love to visit Turkey; it seems like a beautiful country, and the Turks I've known personally were friendly, outgoing and never seemed to stop cooking.. not all my experience with them is good! lol When I accepted anyone that befriended me on Facebook I ended up with over 200 friends that were Turkish guys! so I kind of think they go a little tiny bit overboard maybe haha.
And compared to Sweden, American guys are quite traditional and romantic about pursuing a woman. I'm dating a Swede, and while he doesn't understand why he should pay for anything, etc, there are also some very refreshing aspects--he never checks out other girls (seriously--I point out the hot ones and he's like "meh"), he's very loyal, and respectful. He wants me to be friends with his (guy) friends and has no problem with a little PDA even when they're around. He asks me first before talking to them about "us" to make sure he doesn't say more than I'd want him to. And if I walk around in a slutty outfit he likes it and doesn't get jealous about other guys checking me out.
Basically the bad comes with the good no matter what guy I guess. My philosophy is just not to try to change a guy and to be open to dating guys from all over--there are cultural misunderstandings, but it's definitely true that plenty of obnoxious things about American guys are less "guy" flaws in general and more "American" traits instead. If you hate jealous guys, try dating a Swede. If you want a traditional guy pursuing you, go for a Turk. etc. lol ok I think I'm finally done haha
