I doubt she only weighs 120lbs, I've seen her in a bikini. More like 140lbs.

There's a reason why the experts don't use the BMI on athletes, bodybuilders, senior citizens and other special cases, because they know these people have higher or lower muscle-fat ratios than is normal. However, the BMI works quite well for the average Joe/Jane. The reason why the healthy weight BMI ranges from 18.5 to 24.9 is related to the existence of different body types. Besides, The BMI is supposed to assess if someone has a healthy weight not if someone looks hot or not. A 5'6'' 154lbs woman might not be hot but she can be perfectly healthy. And the reason why the same BMI is used on both men and women is because men and women have different body compositions. Men are supposed to have more muscle and less body fat than women. I'll expplain this better with an example:

The recommended amount of body fat for men is 8-14% and for women is 20-25%. Let's consider we have a man and a woman both weighing 150lbs (same height).

If the man has 8% of body fat he will have have 12 pounds of adipose tissue and 138 pounds of lean tissue (let's ignore the bones and other parts of the body for the sake of the example).

If the woman has 20% of body fat she will have 30 pounds of adipose tissue and 120 pounds of lean tissue.

Because the man has much more muscle than the woman he will look thinner and leaner whereas the woman will have a more voluminous body and a softer look.

They look different, have different body compositions but their weight is the same and it is healthy for the both of them because it's natural for women to have more body fat than men.

Isn't that what many of you say, that women are supposed to look soft not hard like beef jerky?

Of course, it's way better to have one's body fat percentage checked, it's a far more reliable method of acessing one's health but the BMI works well enough on the majority of individuals. And just because we might think someone like Jessica Alba looks healthy doesn't mean a physician will.
