#43,

1.more Democrat presidents then Republican presidents have taken us into war. One seceded from the Union..arguably instigating the civil war, WWI, WWII (though you'll have to admit a pretty good war), the Korean War, VIETNAM and escalation in Vietnam, then not to mention all the botched invasions from the likes of Clinton and Carter. Saved by their own military incompetence.

2.As far as recession goes, the cause of an economic downturn can't be isolated so precisely as to point to one single cause each time. It could just be the inevitable but brief decline after an expansion reaches an unsustainable state. What's more important than casting blame is knowing what to do, or not to do, after the fact. And unfortunately for your argument, Democrats have had a much worse track record in dealing with recession than conservatives. Case in point: the stock market crash of 87 was every bit as bad as the one of 29, but since Reagan resisted loud cries to intervene what followed was a decade-long period of prosperity. This is in direct contrast to the Great Depression, when FDR tried to regulate the hell out of it resulting in a much longer depression than any that came before or after.

3. High unemployment in the US can be traced to the 30s when the first minimum wage law was put into effect in order to prevent black males from "taking jobs" from white male construction workers since they would work for lower wages.
