Keep in mind Miss USA / Miss Universe is more of a true beauty pageant where you only need brains to answer random questions like "Why do you think Americans are so bad at geography?" which a beauty pageant contestant should not really be expected to answer anyway. So those winners tend to be hotter on average.

In contrast, Miss America is positioned as a scholarship pageant where they kind of look for an image of an intelligent do-it-all woman who happens to have some beauty. The focus is more on brains and talent rather than looks. It's hard to find someone who is beautiful, smart, talented and still willing to go through the circus of a pageant to get a scholarship when there are plenty of scholarships and financial sources for college tuition that don't involve potential public humliation.

Average. I wouldn't say she's ugly, but she's very cookie-cutter. Then again, this may be the best Michigan's got. I haven't been there, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Middle America seems to reproduce a slue of plain janes. I know in California, at least, she'd be considered average.
