I agree that Gisele Bundchen and Kate Moss are bigger household names (Gemma and Lily are not). Still, Adriana's popularity and recognition is pretty far-reaching.

True but it''s the same for the other names so it evens out. Gisele has also been in VS shows so her name also shows up in those videos. Kate Moss has been in lots of different stuff. If you search for White Stripes her name will come up because she was in a White Stripes music video etc. As for Gemma and Lily, they're just not very popular.

No. If you put "" around your search term (e.g. "adriana lima"), it will only find results that match the full name. And that's what I did in both Google and YouTube.

The above stats are just an indication. There's a big difference between Lily Cole's 300,000 hits and Adriana's 2,400,000.

I live in Denmark (Scandinavia, Nothern Europe). Adriana's Maybelline commercials run on national television and you'll find large posters of her in many stores selling Maybelline products. It's the same for our neighboring countries.

As for Japan, I don't know. Maybelline Asia tends to use mostly Asian models because they appeal more to the Asian public. I have seen Adriana in a Thai Maybelline commercial though along with Chinese actress, Zhang Ziyi.

There was a recent article talking about the new models being added to the VS roster, and the guy in charge of signing the models said that covers, promotion, etc of each model depends on how much merchandise they move. If merchandise one particular model is promoting sells a lot (as was the case with Gisele when she was first signed to VS and according to VS, most customers referred to 'the Gisele bra or Gisele bathing suit on pg #') - then that is who keeps getting covers and gets 'priority.'
I'm not an Alessandra or Selita fan. I find them both boring and they lack that spark. But if Alessandra keeps getting covers it is because she's selling the most merchandise and VS is a business after all.

Ale has an unique beauty and a great shapely body. If she was a normal girl, she'd definitely get a lot of guys drooling over her. But I notice that with popularity comes hate. Well, Maybelline is not very popular in other countries (nowhere near as popular as in the USA). But I think Giselle, Ale and Adri are all known world-wide.

@51 & @58 - I agree. Gisele was mean, conceited, rude, rough looking and reportedly a lot older than she claims - but she can model. If Adriana Lima is the most searched/or least searched model online, it's really irrelevant unless that's translating into remarkable sales/inquiries for the brands she's representing. That's why she makes something like $5 million a year representing various brands and Gisele is making over 10x's that amount (not including her hotel/sandals and licensed products).

I think Adriana has beautiful eyes and great abs - certainly hotter than many celebs out there - but she's become a two look model (kissy happy face or pouty serious face and that's not including the usual open mouth/tongue out poses) - and now with 2 Adrianas, she doesn't stand out despite her eyes and abs. Miranda Kerr and Adriana Lima have an identical look now. In one of the newer Catalogues, there are a lot more pictures of Miranda Kerr as Adriana Lima than there are of Adriana. Where MK and AL are on the same page, MK's pics are bigger in addition to many full pages she got in one of the newer catalogues. Miranda also has her own solo VS commercials that play a lot over here.

I like the old school VS models like Laeticia Casta, Tyra, several others, they were a lot sexier, interesting, better models and more unique than the current roster of VS models. But I guess VS is a career for some models and a stepping stone for others.
