Run AdAware and/or Spybot on your machine if you see pop-ups that have nothing to do with the site you're looking at. Also, make sure you don't have any browser toolbars from obscure companies or supposedly free codecs for viewing video. The last software that got me was a pretty popular chat program that I immediately removed.
