Smoking kills one out three smokers. That's not counting the survivors with emphyzema and other crappy problems who also run up the cost of health care. Almost half a million dead drug (nicotine) addicts a year in just the U.S.

@ 1 stick to the facts, smokers die younger consuming fewer social services, i.e. social security, many die while young enough that their private health insurance picks up the tab. Once you factor in the enormous tax on cigarettes, and the law suit settlements, smokers actually fund many social services for non-smokers, not the other way around.

That said its a bad habit and people should choose to quit.
