I don't believe in 'reparations' for something that happened a long time ago. Mainly because, on my father's side, both of his parents were born in Mexico and didn't come here until their late teens. So, even though I myself didn't participate, it makes me ashamed to think that our country allowed the trafficking, purchasing, and selling of human beings, even if it was a long ass time ago. There have been injustices perpetrated against every minority that's entered this country, caucasion or not. Japanese Americans who were born in this country were put in labor camps during WWII because the gov't felt that they were a security risk. Chinese immigrants were used as cheap and disposable labor during the building of our railroads. Mexicans were treated as substandard human beings. Hell, even Irish people were discriminated against when they first started immigrating. Anne Claire is right in saying that they teach about this stuff now in order to prevent similar demonstrations of intolerance in the future. If Gilmore Yeats and Phillip McCracken think he's not talented, whatever, fine, you're entitled to your opinion. Just don't bring race into it, because it's simply not a factor.
