A lot of the help for Hurricane Katrina came from christian churches when the government failed to step in. Churches are adopting families and helping them recover, not just throwing food and water at them. My entire family has visited Africa, indian reservations, and various other places and built churches, educational facilties, and homes - beyond the call of duty. It's not funny to lump all christians into one group and say they only give because their religion calls for it. My parents donate far more than ten percent of their annual income, as do most members of their 2,000 member christian church. Millions go to charities and missions in a single year. The IRS doesn't let you get away with that shit. My parents are audited all the time for their religious charity claims; it's always legitimately backed.

The giving they do is more than Angelina. Look at the numbers, the sacrifice. 15% or even more is so much more of a sacrifice for someone who is a part of the struggling middle class than for someone who has hundreds of millions of dollars and can only find it in themselves to donate maybe 8% at best. I'm glad Angelina and some of these other stars are finally starting to give and feel a burden for their world, but it clearly does not equal or come close to what the churchgoers that I personally know give when you look at the numbers. Yeah, millions sound big and flashy, but not when your lifestyle isn't even changed by the loss. An average churchgoer's lifestyle really suffers that loss, Angelina sacrifices nothing compared to that.

I can't speak for what the majority of this country gives, but only for my unknown christian family who feels far more of a burden for this world than Angelina Jolie publicly does. I too have thought that before David. Angelina started as an averagely pretty young girl, but she looked much different back then (in the first close-up shot especially) than she does now. I know it may just be the angle. Now that I think about it, it's the highly arched eyebrows, the pale skin, and probably 10 extra pounds. As you know, India does not have the social services, medical and Food, care or financial support for the poor there are many children, victims of leprosy, widows and street people who have no accommodation, and are basically starving.
As an evangelist in South India, I have taken upon myself the care of 50 orphan children and others with families who are too poor to be able to attend school or even enjoy regular meals.
Every orphan child has a heart breaking history. We find them in miserable conditions, having lost their parents in cyclones, floods, fire, accidents etc. We bring them to us to take care of them. In the beginning it is beyond our ability to console them. Then they slowly become accustomed to our love and care. Our aim is to bring them up in godliness and see that they are living witness to Jesus.
Unfortunately our resources are very limited and so we are not able to feed them regularly even two times a day. Some of them wake up at night crying because they are hungry. For lack of funds we are not able to give them sufficient food. At such times they get up from their plates with half-filled bellies. We not only have to feed them, but also provide them with shelter, clothes and bedding, send them to school and pay their medical bills. But it is very difficult for us to look after all these needs in these days of famine and soaring costs.
Please uphold our Ministry in your regular prayers. We have no affiliation with any organization and receive little regular support. We have a rented building in which we accommodate the orphans, but are not able to provide housing for the homeless poor. However, we do take to the streets with food and utensils so these people won't die of starvation. It costs very little to feed many people.
Our ministry consists of hunger, mockeries and persecutions. Our fellow pastors are very poor. They really have to depend on God. They have to look after their families as well as the Gospel out reach work. Most of the time they walk (for they have no bicycles) and proclaim the Gospel.
Regular and committed support would enable us to feed the parentless hungry children two times every day. Each orphan child needs $20 for a month. If you could raise funds for our orphanage we will be very thankful to you. Please stretch out your hand of compassion to fill their bellies and wipe the tears from their cheeks.
